Anthony Hugh
Gordon Wright
May 1, 1948 — Apr 29, 2025
Born on May 1, 1948, to Carmen "Ruby" Gordon and Norman Wright, Anthony Wright was raised in the vibrant community of West Kingston. From an early age, his character was shaped by the warmth of his family and the spirit of his neighborhood. He began his education at Miss Kelly's Private Infant School, then continued to St. Albans and Denham Town Primary.
A lifelong member of Boys' Town in Trench Town—an institution founded by Dr. Rev. Hugh Sherlock—Anthony's passion for sports flourished there. He proudly represented Boys' Town in both Junior and Senior Cup cricket and also played football in Division Two, Division Three, and Minor League competitions. His love for sports was deeply inspired by his older brother, Collie, who led the way.
During his time at Kingston Technical High School (KTHS), Anthony became a standout athlete, playing on the Sunlight Cup cricket team and the Manning Cup football team. While still a student, he was selected to represent both the Jamaica Colts Cricket Team and the Jamaica Youth Cricket Team—honors that reflected his exceptional talent and dedication.
After graduating from KTHS, Anthony worked as a draftsman and surveyor before migrating to New York to further his education. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Building and Construction Engineering from Pratt Institute. He went on to serve the City of New York for more than 27 years as a Housing Officer, until his retirement.
Quiet and principled, Anthony—affectionately known as Floydy—carried with him the values instilled by his beloved mother, Carmen, whom he loved and respected deeply. Her unwavering belief in the power of education inspired his lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth.
Anthony had a love for music, especially R&B, and enjoyed reading, traveling, and staying informed on political affairs. Though his journey through life was not always easy, he met each challenge with resilience and quiet determination. He lived life on his own terms—and he achieved his goals with grace and grit.
He is survived by his siblings: Patrick, Marlene, Royston, Marie, Norma, and Lyndel; many nieces and nephews
