Yerovi-Lira
Apr 14, 1955 — Jun 17, 2022
On Friday, June 17th, 2022, at 12:21 a.m., Carmen Yerovi Diaz – beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend – passed away peacefully in her sleep in her Coconut Creek home, surrounded by her two loving children.
Carmen was born on April 14th, 1955, a beloved daughter to Carmen Rosa Diaz Torres and Leonidas Nicolás Yerovi Douat in Lima, Peru. She received her primary and secondary education at the school De Jesús in Pueblo Libre, her Bachelor's degree in Education from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, and her Master's degree in Education from the University of Jaén in Spain. She was united in matrimony with Jorge Luis Lira on December 21st, 1991, and together, they raised Ana Lucía and Jorge Luis II.
Carmen was a proud educator in various religious institutions for over 25 years. She taught at San Silvestre School in Lima, Peru, St. Mark's Episcopal School, St. Anthony's Catholic School, and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Her love for her family, linguistics, and literature, as well as her lifelong passion for learning and education, made her an extraordinary student of life and an exemplary teacher to thousands of pupils, from pre-K to high school.
Carmen was preceded in death by her father Leonidas Nicolás, her mother Carmen Rosa, and her brother Luis Fernán. She is survived by her siblings, Nicolás and Juani, and her children, Ana Lucía and Jorge Luis II. She also leaves a profound void among her cousins who she treated as siblings, as well as nieces and nephews who were like children to her.
As a devout Catholic, lover of music, and prolific world traveler, Carmen fulfilled her life's mission to serve others, inspiring those with the great fortune to know her with her zeal for life and her adventurous spirit. Carmen led by example through her tireless pursuit of knowledge, unwavering faith, and dauntless courage before every challenge. She will be most fondly remembered for her wry wit, her infectious smile, and her compassion. The legacy Carmen leaves us is one of a deep, abiding love of God and all of His children. This is most evident in the quiet strength she demonstrated each day and the vibrant joy she shared with others at every opportunity. She will be forever remembered and most deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital . All other correspondence may be sent to the following address: 4760 Preserve Street, Coconut Creek, FL 33073. Her children send all their gratitude, love, and blessings for the overwhelming outpouring of support and affection they have received from Carmen's friends, family, and the St. Thomas Aquinas community during this difficult time.
