Staff Sergeant Daniel Hilifa L. Fernando, 39, transitioned unexpectedly on Thursday, September 14, 2023 in Henderson, MN. Born on Tuesday, July 10, 1984 to Simao Fernando and Meme Maria Ndeshipanda Nahenda at Ohaweeyanaga Village, he was one of six children.

Daniel was the chunkiest baby with the cutest fat folds. Entering school, Daniel excelled in his academics and received many awards for his achievements. After completing secondary education and attending some undergraduate studies, he commenced a new journey to America. He acclimated quickly to living with his father in the States, and began a job with warehouse giant, Costco.

When Daniel found love and wed, the couple was blessed with two daughters. Jadalyn and Yvette were deeply loved by their father; they were his sole priority. Seeking better opportunities for the young family, Daniel joined Army National Guard. He accelerated through the ranks, earning the title of Staff Sergeant before his untimely passing. With his radiant personality, he was loved by his fellow soldiers and higher ranked officials alike. Daniel was very proud to serve his country.

Daniel is survived by his beloved daughters, Jadalyn Elizabeth and Yvette Panduleni Maria; father, Simao (Arminda); mother, Meme Maria (Martin); and his siblings, Michael, Dofonso, Carlos, Rui, and Angela.

Daniel will forever be remembered and deeply missed by all.
