Obituary

Douglas Nweeia, affectionately known as "DOUG," 65, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, May 5, 2026, in Miami. Doug will be remembered as being full of life! He loved to entertain family and friends, especially during football season in the fall, where he loved to host at his home on his patio, which he called "Doug's Bar and Grille." We watched countless Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes games while Doug cooked massive amounts of food- mostly steak, chicken, and fish- for his guests. No one ever went hungry when visiting the Nweeia household.

In the summer months, he loved his pool and entertaining guests in the beautiful oasis that he created outside. He also loved boating on beautiful Biscayne Bay. He loved going on golf cart rides down to the water every Sunday evening. In fact, he really only liked to eat out at restaurants that he could get to by golf cart alone.

Doug did many things throughout his life. He was a jack of all trades and a master of everything! He worked in the automobile industry for over 30 years. He was a business development genius. He had many, many colleagues in business and was always working on the next deal! Those who knew him will always remember him for his big heart, his kindness, his humble attitude, and his forgiving nature.

Doug was a man of God who loved Jesus and his family so much. He prayed for his family daily. He was always ready to share his faith with others and often sent his friends and family daily Bible verses or devotionals. He was a blessed man and a blessing to others.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Nweeia, and his father-in-law, Larry Mercugliano. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Nweeia; his daughter, Alyssa Nweeia, and her fiancé, Matthew Cavanaugh; his son, Nicholas Nweeia, and wife, Aubrie; his son, Brett Nweeia; his mother, Dolores Nweeia; his brothers, Robert Nweeia and Danny Nweeia; and his mother-in-law, Gloria Mercugliano, and many other extended family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday evening, May 11, at 7 PM at Christ Fellowship Church, Palmetto Bay Campus, 8900 SW 168th St., Palmetto Bay 33157. Immediately following the celebration, please join us for a reception at Sandbar Sports Grill, 20305 Old Cutler Road, Cutler Bay, FL 33189.
