Gloria
Rader
Aug 23, 1931 — Sep 18, 2026
Gloria was born in New York City in August, 1931. She grew up in a tight-knit Italian community in Corona, Queens, in a loving home shared with her parents, sister, aunt, uncle, and cousins.
Gloria was brilliant, hardworking, and determined. She attended night classes and graduated summa cum laude. She used her education to become a teacher, preparing students for their own careers in office administration. She was famously stylish- with her collection of dresses, jewelry, and horn-rimmed glasses, some of her students joked that they never saw her wear the same outfit twice.
In 1959, Gloria married John Rader. Together they built a successful life, with Gloria using her sharp mind to manage the books. Gloria and John traveled the world together: flying on the Concorde, cruising aboard the QEII, and going on safari in Africa. Though she enjoyed a life of luxury, she remained humble and grounded, and there was nowhere in the world she loved more than her family's simple summer home in Bayville.
Much like Bayville, Gloria was a haven. Those that knew her knew they could turn to her in times of trouble and be received without judgement, in warm and loving arms. For her children, Craig and Kimberly, and her grandchildren Brooke and Blair, she was their greatest source of comfort and reassurance, a mother who was always there, no matter what. Her love always gave them a place to return to.
Gloria is survived by her husband, John; their children, Craig and Kimberly; her granddaughter, Brooke; her sister, Lorraine; and the countless cousins, family members, and friends who adored her.
