Obituary

Jean Raymond Desinor, born May 11, 1959, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, passed away on March 15, 2025, at the age of 65. He was the beloved son of Clarice Calixte and Raymond Desinor, who both preceded him in death. Jean was the fourth of nine children and the first son, cherished by his older sisters, who often spoiled him with extra food and took on his punishments when he misbehaved. His warmth and loving nature were felt by everyone who knew him. Although Jean was the fourth child, he was always the protector of his family. He was his brother's and sister's keeper, and he did it with love- a true family man. He was strict, yet loving, serious at times but also very witty and fun. Many people have heard Jean jokingly say, "Stay in your lane." He had a captivating energy, always smiling and always looking out for others.

Jean immigrated to New York in July 1975 with his five sisters and one younger brother. He attended Wingate High School in Brooklyn, where he played the alto saxophone and percussion, showcasing his love for music. An avid lover of jazz, Jean's passion for the genre was a defining part of his life. After high school, he attended Brooklyn College and later attended trade school for automotive mechanics. He was often known to be the life of the party with his contagious laugh and endless stories with meaningful lessons.

In 1979, Jean moved to Florida, where he helped his older sister, Yanick, care for her baby daughter, Fabby. It was during this time that Jean's life would take a beautiful turn, as he met his future wife, Carol. Together, for 34 years, they built a loving family, raising their children, Raymond, Phylicia, and Ahkeem, while pursuing the American dream.

Jean's life was rooted in his strong faith. He gave his heart to Christ and was baptized in 1997. His devotion to God was evident in every aspect of his life, and he loved sharing the scriptures and offering words of encouragement to others. Jean was passionate about missionary work, traveling to Jamaica, the Bahamas, and various parts of Florida for mission trips. He dedicated many Sundays witnessing to young men through his Christian outreach efforts in prisons. He was also a devoted coach for the Youth Basketball League in the City of Parkland & Coral Springs, serving as a father figure to many in the community. His involvement with Promise Keepers further reflected his commitment to uplifting men in Christ's teachings.

Jean had many passions and interests including homes, gardening, construction, and learning new trades like electricity and plumbing. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the NY Giants, and had a lifelong love for old cars. Growing up in New York, he was known as "Z" because of his admiration for the Datsun Z sports car. Jean's dream came true when he was finally able to purchase his own Datsun Z. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time working on his dream car with his grandchildren, as well as serving others in the community through ministry and friendship.

After 30+ years of dedicated service of working for the City of Pompano Beach, Jean retired in 2019, embracing the opportunity to spend more time with his grandchildren, travel with his wife, and living a life as a servant to God.

Jean is survived by his loving wife, Carol Desinor; his three children, Raymond, Phylicia, and Ahkeem, and their spouses, Caryn Desinor and Jeffrey Jenkins; his seven sisters, Gladys (Daniel) Joseph, Yanick Petitfrere, Chantal (Sergio) Borgella, Dr. Magalie (Emmanuel) Celesna, Marjorie, Ruthgina (Westley) Pamphile, and Daphne; his brother, Vendrix Desinor; and his 10 grandchildren: Zamara (Robin), Khadyn (Ravyn), Tahj (Candise), Elijah (Samantha), Raymond Jr., Rayshawn, Rayiah (Michelle), Amyah, Elienne, and Stephan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, both in his community and beyond. His unwavering faith, passion for service, and love for his family and friends will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a rich legacy of kindness, dedication, and love that will continue to inspire for generations to come.

Though he is no longer with us, Jean's legacy of faith, love, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

2 Kings 6:16: "Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
