John Robert
Rominger
Mar 8, 1948 — Jul 20, 2023
Our loving father, John Robert Rominger, of Coconut Creek, Florida, passed peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the age of 75. He was holding our mother's hand in the last moments of his life. He was the rock of our family and will be missed immensely.
Dad is survived by his dedicated caretaker and devoted wife of 53 years, our mother, Paulette Rominger. His legacy continues through the five of us, his grateful children, Sandy, Samantha, Sarah, Stephen and Seth. His four beautiful grandchildren, Audra, Olivia, Leah and Harper, must now share all the special memories of their papa with his future grandchildren.
Dad is preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Betty Rominger; and his brother, Rick Rominger. Our family now turns to our fun-loving aunts, Jean and Beth, to reminisce with us and share all the heart-warming Rominger family stories.
Dad was born on March 8, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana and he grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He met mom in 1968 while cruising the beach in his souped-up, red Ford Falcon. They routinely met with friends at Pizio's drive-in on US1, where they enjoyed cheeseburgers and milkshakes while listening to their favorite Beatles music. A year later, on December 13, 1969, they were married.
Dad graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and went on to study at Broward College. Working in retail management for most of his life, he made many friends along the way. We all remember him as a devoted, hard-working father with an incredible work ethic. He would often share his workday experiences over family dinner. As we grew older, his professional wisdom and experience helped guide us as we navigated the challenges of the business world.
Anyone who knew dad well understood his silly sense of humor, boisterous laugh, and above all his genuine nature. He was the king of a good dad joke. Honestly, they weren't always that good, but he could sure sell them with his exuberant laugh. He had a passion for golf and loved to share it with his boys, playing as often as time allowed. Growing up, he was an avid baseball player and athlete. As an adult he spent much time coaching the boys' baseball teams and supporting them at travel ball games. When we were kids, he would often watch the Braves' games with us on TV. Dad always made sure his girls knew the rules of the game, so we could share his passion and never feel left out. When he retired, he taught his granddaughters to throw, catch and hit a baseball in the backyard. Dad absolutely adored all of his grandkids!
Pop was an ordinary guy who accomplished extraordinary things. Fifty-three years of marriage and raising five healthy children was no easy task. He was a man of integrity who led by example and always put his wife and children first. He made innumerable sacrifices for all of us. We will be forever grateful to him for demonstrating the importance of a loving, fun-filled, and supportive family life.
We've dreaded this day for many years. It arrived much too quickly. Now dad is now finally at rest, and we all deeply cherish his memory within our hearts. We ask that you please hold him close in your mind and heart as we do, and remember the unique gifts that made him special.
Dad's funeral will be held at Monarch Funeral Home at 2950 US Highway 441 (SR7), Margate, FL 33063. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3pm.
