Josip Pino Černjul, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, died peacefully on September 19, 2024, surrounded by family. Pino devoted his life to his family and friends while building a successful career as a restaurateur at the landmark Rossini's Restaurant in NYC, which he operated and owned with his trusted partners for over 45 years. He lived a distinguished life driven by a passion to make a better life for his family, integrity, and selflessness. His charismatic and compassionate nature drew you in at first encounter, and his wisdom left a mark on so many of his adoring family and friends.
Pino was born on July 12, 1945 in Županići, Istria, Croatia, to father Jakov and mother Jakomina. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Zora Černjul. Pino immigrated to America in 1969 with his wife Zora and daughter Denize, with relentless ambition and perseverance. Prior to moving to America, Pino completed multiple tours of duty in the far east and around the globe, while serving, with distinction, in the Navy for his home country.
He is survived by his daughters, Denize and her husband Daniel, and their children Gabriella and Maximillian; Jacqueline and her husband Max, and their children Joseph and Dante; and Elizabeth with her husband Anthony, and their children Izabelle, Angelina, and Antonia; as well as his sisters Celestina and Gracijela, brother in-laws Milan and Boris Licul, and sister-in-law Zdenka Belušić with their respective families.
