Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juan Omar Soria, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished member of our family. Juan passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after battling Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease for many years. He was 84 years old.

Born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on July 29, 1939, to parents Raul Soria-Marin and Georgina Calderon, Juan spent his early years in Ecuador before earning his degree in dentistry. He then moved to New York and had to rebuild his career and life from scratch, switching to dental lab technician before being able to graduate again as a dentist in the United States from New York University.

He was a devoted son to his parents, while they lived, a supportive brother to his brothers, always offering a helping hand, and a devoted father to his children, giving more than he would ever ask of us. Juan's presence filled our lives with cherished memories.

In his friendships and personal relationships, Juan exemplified loyalty. He loved a good party, sharing stories, making jokes, trying new restaurants, having movie nights, singing ballads, and dancing. He was an active member of the Ecuadorian professional community in New York City and built long enduring friendships.

Juan is survived by his children, Alexandra Soria-Vargas and her husband Joaquin, Jacqueline Soria, Raul Soria and his wife Thankama, Leslie Escobar and her husband Johan, and Jennifer Lynn Soria; his grandchildren, Steven, Jacqueline, Jessica, Kimberly, Stephanie, Danielle, Matthew, and Sophia; and his Great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Levi, Danielle, and Jude Omar; and his brothers, Raul Soria, Jorge Soria, and Winston Soria. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Share your memories of Juan or express condolences to his family through our online guestbook.
