Obituary

Margery Alice (Hoffman) Schwartz was born August 19, 1920 in New Rochelle, New York; her parents were Della and Sylvan Hoffman of New Rochelle and Fort Lauderdale. Marge died peacefully on December 29, 2022 in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Marge was happily married to Sidney Schwartz for nearly 70 years before his passing in 2009. Along with her two beloved sons, Stephen Schwartz of Homer, New York, and Donald Schwartz of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Marge leaves nine grandchildren, Rebecca Michals, Ingrid Garrard, Michael Schwartz, Laura Dunn, JJ Schmidt, Jared Schwartz, Liz Nowalk, Devin Schwartz, and Dan Schwartz to cherish her memory. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren. Marge was preceded in death by her beloved son, Richard Schwartz, of Falmouth, Massachusetts in 2018.

Marge and Sid lived in West Hartford, CT for many years before relocating to Florida in the mid 1970's. Marge was proud of having been a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. In addition to this, she also worked for the Connecticut Employment Security Division for many years and enjoyed volunteer work for several Jewish organizations. Sid and Marge enjoyed many delightful years of retirement living in Florida, in Ft. Lauderdale and later at the Wynmoor community of Coconut Creek. Sailing and cruising (The Venture Club) with children and grandchildren in the Florida Keys and Bahamas on their sailboats, Greenstripe and Footloose, were a favorite way to enjoy the outdoors. Marge was healthy and mentally active almost until the end. Her good humor, love, and generosity toward her loved ones will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Marge will be laid to rest with Sid, at the South Florida National Cemetery on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11 am.
