Maria Minerva
Amado Cabrera
Jan 6, 1965 — Aug 22, 2026
Guestbook and Livestream instructions are below the obituary. At the family's request, please do not send flowers.
Maria "Watusy" Amado Cabrera, 61, was born and raised in Puerto Rico and passed away peacefully in her home on August 22, 2026. She later called Florida her home, moving there to be closer to her family and, most importantly, to be there for her first grandson. There she built a beautiful new chapter of her life, creating countless memories and friendships along the way.
Maria loved deeply and without reservation. She loved her family, her friends, and the many people she met throughout her life. She also loved her animals, who were never simply pets, but cherished members of her family who brought her endless love, companionship, and held a special place in her heart.
There are a few special people in our lifetime that, if we are lucky enough, we may get to meet. People who are full of energy, have the most noble hearts, and possess a beautiful smile that can illuminate even the darkest corner of the soul. Maria was that person! She was a unicorn, beautiful inside and out. She had the superpower of making people smile, feel happy, and feel seen. She was a people magnet. Meet her once, and somehow, you were no longer a stranger. You fell in love with her charismatic personality. She was the nuclear-powered cousin of the Energizer Bunny.
Throughout her life, Maria touched the hearts of countless people. She made friends in the weirdest places and under the most unexpected circumstances. If you worked with her or were her neighbor, you knew her kind selfless spirit. If you met her on an airplane, you were now her friend. If she noticed you were struggling, there she was, ready to help. She noticed people and cared about them. And she helped so many, in so many different ways.
As most know, Maria drove a school bus for many years. She lovingly called the children she transported her "pollitos" (chicks), as well as her children's friends. She was their Mother Hen—the one who watched over her chicks and protected them fiercely. She formed meaningful relationships with people that most others may never have the opportunity to experience or understand. She had a "sixth sense" that allowed her to see the world around her in a way that always seemed to lead her toward someone who needed help. She gave everything she had and asked for nothing in return.
She is remembered by so many people and will be remembered for a very long time. Some people say, "You die twice. One time when you stop breathing, and a second time, a little later, when somebody says your name for the last time". Maria will live in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved her for many years to come. Her name will continue to be spoken. Her stories will continue to be told. Her laughter, her smile, her kindness, and her unforgettable personality will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched. She was loved by way too many people. She lived a life worth remembering. She was that special.
Maria fought a fierce and difficult battle with her illness. She tried to give us as much time with her as she could and to spare us, as long as possible, from the pain of losing her. Even as her health declined, she continued to touch the hearts of those around her, giving others comfort, love, and peace when they needed it most. She smiled through it all, even on the worst days. That's who she was.
Her body and soul now rest, but the love she gave us will never leave us. She is in heaven now, where she rightfully belongs, free from pain and surrounded by peace.
Until we meet again, Watusy. You will always be loved, always be remembered, and forever be a part of us.
