Mason Scott
Levy
Mar 27, 1950 — Jul 2, 2023
Beloved father, family member, and friend, Mason Scott Levy, was found to have passed peacefully but unexpectedly in his sleep July 2nd, 2023. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His daughters will remember him as a gentle soul, with a desire to make everyone laugh.
Mason was born in Brooklyn, New York before moving around several times to eventually take his vibrant personality to the sunny landscapes of Florida where he met and married Debra (Platt) Levy. Debra and Mason were married for 17 years before separating and eventually divorcing. Debra is the mother of Mason's two daughters, Madison (Maddy), and Sarah Levy. Debra died by suicide on October 30, 2021.
He follows to heaven his mother, Florence Persten; his father, Shelby Levy; his brother, Andrew Levy; and his ex-wife, Debra Levy. He leaves behind his two daughters Maddy and Sarah Levy; his siblings, Lydia and Mitchell; and his half-siblings, Jane and Lillian.
Mason's early years were what some would lovingly describe as free-spirited. He found an early passion for classic 80's culture and never faltered from that attitude even into his elderly years. After retiring early from his father's jewelry business (previously known as Zurich Jewelry), Mason became an entrepreneur. He opened his own business, Welcome Enterprises, where he sold business leads. Mason also moonlighted as a close-up magician on weeknights and weekends. He also worked/volunteered closely with the Kiwanis Club for several years.
He was known by his family as a comedian, magician, and business entrepreneur. He loved to do improv, one-liners, dad jokes, and impersonations for comedic relief. He was proficient in close-up magic, specifically coin and card slide of hand. His lead business supported him and his family for many years before he ultimately closed the business to take care of his long-time friend Steve Gazes, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
Mason is described by his friends and family as humorous, philosophical, creative, and sometimes overbearingly stubborn. He often spoke of his love and admiration toward his daughters who held a loving, close personal relationship with Mason. He enjoyed watching movies, specifically superheroes, sci-fi, and classic Westerns. He also enjoyed practicing magic, scrolling through Tik Tok, listening to Howard Stern, and running jokes passed his daughters. His daughters recall in particular, he loved to joke that he only cared for one holiday which was satirically "daytime savings time."
In the year and a half after Debra's passing, Mason became the rock for his daughters to lean on. He was their confidante, always offering unwavering support and wisdom. Just recently, he and his daughters took a walk down memory lane, taking an Everglades Holiday Park airboat ride to commemorate Father's Day 2023. He held steadfast by their side up until his final day, getting to enjoy lunch and ice cream with his daughters in celebration of Sarah's 34th birthday. His memory will forever be etched in their hearts, serving as a reminder of his enduring presence. His daughters specifically recall the incredible guidance and attention he bestowed during the grieving process of Debra.
Sarah describes him as a kind, gentle, and caring soul. She expressed that during her early years of childhood, Mason was her biggest influence. He taught her many things, like riding her bike, tying her shoes, and the importance of family. Sarah felt that she had a lot in common with her father, and would often speak with him for hours about various hobbies. She greatly enjoyed doing puzzles and watching movies with her dad. Sarah wants to emphasize that Mason was always there for her, her lighthouse in the storm.
Maddy recalls that in the last conversation she had with her father they ended by bickering about who loved who more. Maddy and her father had a sweet and special connection, often speaking for hours about movies, books, and music. Maddy and Mason enjoyed traveling together whether it be road trips or airplane rides. They created a plethora of memories, most recently taking a road trip along the eastern coast of Florida. Mason's last text message to Maddy was "Let's fly to Tennessee" in emphasis of a Tik Tok video he sent to her in anticipation of their next adventure. Maddy plans to fulfill that Tennessee trip sometime in August, in honor of her father.
As we bid farewell to Mason, let us celebrate the fullness of his life. Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on within the hearts of those he loved. May we honor his memory by carrying forward his legacy of love, compassion, and friendship. May his soul find eternal peace, and may we find comfort in knowing that his presence will forever reside in our hearts.
