Peggy
Zettek
Dec 7, 1940 — Jul 28, 2022
Peggy Zettek, 81, of Margate, FL passed away on July 28, 2022. Born one year before the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1940 to Eddie and (Mary) Virginia (Wood) Dennard of North Carolina. Virginia and Eddie would later divorce and Virginia remarried her love, Andrew Amaty, a US Army Paratrooper who fought the Japanese in the battle of Corregidor in the Pacific. Peggy was raised in Brooklyn, NY where she spent her formative years attending school.
One evening in a local NY bar, Peggy met a US Navy sailor on leave, Alan Zettek, Sr, her one true love. In 1960 they were married and moved into a newly built home in what was then a very small town, Margate, FL. Alan was honorably discharged from the US Navy and started a career as a city of Ft. Lauderdale firefighter. The Zetteks began a boisterous, fun-loving family that remained in the same home for over 6 decades.
Preceded in death by her husband, Al, in 2008. She is survived by her sons, Alan and Andy (Sonia); grandchildren, Andrew Jr., Michael, Amy, Isaac, Johnathan, Christopher, Timothy, and Pedro; and her great-grandson, Mason. Also left to cherish her memory is her sister, Susan (Paddy) Cook of Howard Beach, NY and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Peg and Al cherished time together and especially loved teaching line dancing and traveling the world together. After Al's passing, Peg remained an avid traveler and made so many friends along the way. Over 25 years of friendship and hundreds of travel adventures together. Peg believed that traveling to other countries and experiencing different cultures would make you a better person. She was very generous with her time and love, enjoyed cooking for the masses and will always be remembered for her love of family, her generosity and her good sense of humor.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 6, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Casual travel attire please!
