Raymond E.
Largen
May 11, 1932 — Oct 21, 2022
Raymond Elwood Largen, 90 years young, was born May 11,1932 in rural Carroll County, VA. He passed away in the loving care of VITAS Hospice Unit on October 21, 2022. Raymond was born in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to Mary Nester and Homer Largen. He was the youngest of four boys. He was a mischievous, red-headed boy who was nicknamed Woody. He was also a loving boy who ran around barefoot clad in overalls; he enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews.
After Raymond graduated from high school he married Regina Branscome, joined the Army and had four children: Sabrina Largen, Rebecca Busch, Nathan Largen and Charles Largen who preceded him in death. Together they traveled all across the US and Germany. As a soldier and officer, Raymond fought in the Koren and Vietnam wars. He earned numerous medals and commendations, including the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit. After thirty years, Raymond retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel. Soon thereafter, he and Regina divorced.
Raymond was an adventurous man as well as a man who loved married life. He moved to Florida where he met his next three wives. He is survived by his current wife Roberta Summaria.
Raymond enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. He loved good beer and was a loyal Dolphins fan. He had season tickets and knew how to rock a tailgate party. He never met a stranger and loved to brag to them about his children. He loved to tell a joke, and if it was a good one, he would tell it again the next time he saw you. He loved to regale folks with childhood stories of his children. He was an adoring father who loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren wholeheartedly, and they loved him.
He was generous to his core and would literally give you the shirt off his back. He had a youthful zest for life; he would not hesitate to catch the last roller coaster ride of the night. He was forever helpful, volunteering at Meals on Wheels and working the polls during elections. He delighted in music, and he was a great dancer who often danced with his children. Raymond was a "what you see is what you get'' kind of guy who lived by his favorite saying, "If it ain't fun, don't do it." Raymond 100% lived by these words, so you can bet that wherever he is now, he is the life of the party. So long Pops, you'll be missed.
