Shirley Victoria
Lyn
Jul 3, 1940 — Jun 28, 2024
Affectionately known as "Mama Lyn," Mrs. Lyn was born on July 3, 1940 and transitioned on June 28, 2024 at the age of 83.
Mrs. Lyn left behind her husband, Norris Lyn, whom she was married to for 63 years; 4 children, Albert, Millicent, Tania, Patrick, and her late son, Michael; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mama Lyn was a devoted wife, a wonderful grandmother and great grandmother; a family oriented person and a friend you can count on that we can all attest to.
Mama Lyn was born with the given name Shirley Victoria Nelson in Kingston, Jamaica. At about 6 weeks of age she was adopted by her adopted mother, Daisy Nelson, where they then moved to Browns Hall, St. Catherine where she went to school and lived her childhood life there.
At the age of 20, Mama Lyn married Norris Lyn. They lived as a family with their children in Kingston and had many businesses. They moved to Portmore, Jamaica in the early 70's and later on had their bar and grocery shop there. Her bar had become the community bar to go to. Friends and people from near and far would gather there. It's the bar that never closes. People would be there morning, noon and night. They would eat, drink and sleep there. The only thing they never did was take a shower there. Mama Lyn has always been the one to entertain, bring people together and be the life of the party.
In the late 90's Mama Lyn and her husband migrated to Florida to be with family. She created a family she was proud of as she would always say "look how me never come from nothing to the family me have now." She lived a great life with her husband and family by her side. She left great memories, from her stories and life lessons that we all can cherish and remember her by. One of her favorite saying is "Bring your mind to your condition."
