Obituary

Shurland Oral Mohammed suddenly passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Northwest Medical Center from heart failure in Margate, FL. Born on October 3, 1944 in Trinidad and Tobago, he was the son of Shaffic and Violet Mohammed, and the brother of Olive and the late Shaffic, Jr., Lynette and Anna.
Shurland grew up in Barataria, Trinidad, where he was previously married to the late Jean, and they had two beautiful daughters, Judy and Fereda. Many years later in 1976, Shurland met his soul mate, Sahida in a movie theater where he bought a soda and gave it to her. Three years later, on November 23, 1979, they married and had two wonderful children, Shanaaz and Sheraz. He later moved to Montreal, Canada in 1989 before relocating to Margate, FL in 1994 where he lived out the remainder of his life.
Shurland loved his family and would do anything for them. He was an extremely thoughtful man; the love that he gave was genuine and real. Shurland was generous and maintained a positive outlook on life. He was always full of spirit, jovial, and loved being the entertainer in any crowd. Shurland was content in good company, especially that of his family, and greatly enjoyed sharing a delicious meal with them. He had a passion for horse racing and he enjoyed watching the yachts from the boathouse he worked at for 20 years. He loved watching basketball and cricket, but enjoyed old westerns most of all; he knew every actor's name. Singing was Shurland's greatest passion, and his go-to tune was "The Wonder of You." He appreciated all types of music, but mostly older classics and gospel music. Shurland was a man of many facets, but will be remembered for being a truly decent man that not only thought of others but cared for them.
Shurland is survived by his wife, Sahida; daughters, Judy, Fereda, and Shanaaz; son, Sheraz; stepchildren, Farhad, Riad, Sheriza, Saiyad, and Nishad; grandchildren, Kyle, Shawn, Madison; and step-grandchildren, Arianna, Stevanna, Sarika, Jay, Adam, Ashley, Sharvani, Sanjay, and Arriah. Also left to cherish his memory are his great-grandchild, Riley; sister, Olive; nephews, Brent, Barry, Marlon, and Darren; and niece, Jasmine.
Shurland will be remembered for the kindness of his heart, positive spirit, unwavering faith in God, and his love of singing. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
