Wilma Jan (Christensen) Harden of Pompano Beach, FL passed away at home on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born on January 30, 1935 in Detroit, MI. She married David (Bill) Lee Harden and they moved to Wichita, KS before settling in Florida in 1962 to raise a family.
She graduated from Broward Community College (1971) with her RN license and Florida Atlantic University (1985) with a BS in Health Administration.
She worked in many areas of nursing, leaving North Broward Hospital (ER Manager) to pursue a career with Hospice, Inc (now VITAS) in 1989. There she earned the esteemed Presidential Award. She returned to Broward Health Imperial Point and worked as pool coverage in the ER Triage area until she was 82 and could no longer physically work. She was presented with the Daisy Award in her last years there.
Endlessly talented, she was actively involved in making beautiful quilts for VITAS patients, did a volunteer stint with the Percy White Library in Deerfield Beach, played pinochle with a few local groups, she especially looked forward to Monday afternoons with the ladies. She loved playing backgammon, Acey-Deucey, UpWords, and any other game suggested. She enjoyed any type of road trip, casino visits, rock hounding, wire wrapping, doing puzzles, reading, and listening to classic country music and murder mystery/cop programs. She also enjoyed helping her granddaughter Alex, with packaging and sending parcels to benefit Clever Creatures Fox Sanctuary.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, David Lee Harden.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her brother, Ronald Christensen; sister, Dana Lewis; and children, Daryl (David) Pass, Doyle Harden, and Darcy Lamadore; granddaughter, Alexandrea Lamadore; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, fur-babies, friends, and community that loved her.
The family would like to thank VITAS- especially nurse Brenda and CNA Miss Donnella W for the care and compassion they showed our mom in her final days. Also, nurses Kanicka and Marlene at Broward Health North for their guidance and kindness.
Wilma was truly a shining light in this world. She was a very accomplished woman who loved with her entire heart.
